Why Do I Design?

Ever since I was young, I have always taken pride in my ability to form connections and solve problems for others. My passion for helping others pointed me toward studying psychology in university with aspirations of being a therapist. As I worked through my courses at school, I fell in love with the research aspect of psychology, which led me to join research labs and even complete a research thesis of my own. Because of this love for research, I decided that therapy was not the path for me, so I began looking for different outlets that could satisfy my curious mind and allow me to continue helping others.

When I discovered the field of UX, I figured it would be a perfect fit for me. I would get to use my research experience and my skills with people to uncover, define, and work toward fixing the problems they experience in their everyday life, which I believe is so much more fulfilling than simply talking through issues or publishing a research paper about them. As I pivot out of the field of psychological research and into the field of design, I am continuously working on my ability to produce delightful solutions for problems that will both look and feel polished.

As a young designer, I hope to find myself in a work environment that will allow me to grow my visual design skills as well as let me flex my problem-solving muscles. I would love to be surrounded by other passionate designers that would be willing to share their experiences with me. As I continue forward in my path as a designer, I look forward to developing as a creative problem-solver that creates products to make life more enjoyable for others.
